Johnny Roybal was working with his father installing wood floors when he discovered the many creative and artistic things that can be done with concrete. From then on, he was hooked.
A father and son duo, the Roybals launched Legend Restoration, a Christian-based business, three years ago, operating with a simple philosophy: Take care of and make sure the customer is happy. But, it’s more than just ensuring customer satisfaction; it’s also about building relationships.
“We stay in touch with customers,” Roybal says. “I had a job where I was at the customer’s house everyday for a month and a half. I got to know them and to become friends with them. It’s all about taking care of and being personal with the client.”
Offering both interior and exterior concrete designs, Legend Restoration caters to both residential and commercial clients and offers a full range of decorative concrete products, including concrete countertops, acid stain concrete, concrete overlays, and concrete pool decks. Roybal uses three different products: MaiPai, SherCrete, and MiraCoat.
Legend Restoration predominately secures its business from word of mouth. In fact, Roybal is so busy that he has little time to advertise. But, that’s okay with Roybal, who believes that it’s more important to focus on each job to ensure high quality rather than expanding quickly.
“I have a friend in decorative concrete who has four or five crews, but I think that getting into that broad of an area means you can’t focus on a certain job. If your crew messes up, that doesn’t tend to be what the customer wants,” Roybal says.
All of Legend Restorations’ products are backed by a one-year warranty.
In the three years since Legend Restoration has been offering decorative concrete products, Roybal, who puts 100 percent into every job he does, has had many memorable jobs. But, one stands out as his best: He worked on an overlay at a car dealership.
“That overlay was down for a good 10 years,” Roybal says. “The concrete setting on it started getting cracks and they went over way too thick on the overlay. The overlay went almost two and a half inches on some parts, and that started chipping away. It took me two and a half days to just jackhammer it out.”
Still, Roybal was able to transform into a spectacular new product.
Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Legend Restoration serves residential and commercial clients in Santa Fe and the surrounding areas.
