Chuck Schultz was surfing the Internet when he first discovered decorative concrete, which immediately caught his interest. The rest, as the old saying goes, is history.
Schultz started Xtreme Custom Concrete in 2000. His decorative concrete company focuses on residential clientele and offers interior and exterior concrete designs. While Xtreme Custom Concrete’s primary specialization is coloring, Schultz and his team also offer stamped concrete, concrete overlays, acid stained concrete, concrete driveways, and concrete patios.
The typical lifespan of decorative concrete all comes down to how well it’s maintained in most cases. However, exterior concrete, even when maintained properly, can be damaged by the elements, particularly wind and rain, which will prematurely dry the concrete top out. As a result, the grout line will throw the concrete away, making it look unattractive, according to Schultz.
But, it’s also important to know what else can be harmful to concrete. Salt, for example, destroys concrete. “All concrete needs to be sealed,” Schultz says. “With the proper maintenance, decorative concrete can last for years and years.
There are two simple yet powerful philosophies by which Schultz runs Xtreme Custom Concrete. First, he and his team work hard to give the homeowner more than for which they paid.
Second, Schultz strives to personalize, whether it’s through colors or designs, every job.
“We try to bring an artistic sense to it. Even if your neighbor has the same patterns as you do, through design or adding inlays or acid stain borders, yours just stands apart,” Schultz says. “If people are going to spend money on stamped concrete, you want them to have something they are proud of.”
Xtreme Custom Concrete has become so popular in Michigan, in fact, that Schultz has stopped local advertising because the majority of his business is the result of referrals and the internet.
Headquartered in Waterford, Michigan, Xtreme Custom Concrete serves all of Southeast Michigan, including Bloomfield Hills, Clarkston, Rochester Hills, West Bloomfield, Lake Carlton, Beverly Hills, Troy, Waterford, and White Lake.
Schultz and Xtreme Custom Concrete will unveil a showroom in April 2009. Clients and prospective clients will be able to visit the showroom on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from noon to 7 p.m., or they can schedule an appointment for a time that best fits their schedule.
